This is fostering.
Fostering allows us to be a temporary respite for animals in need. Fostering means cuddling, it means socializing, it means caring completely and loving so fully so that they know only love and care.
The goal is sending them off to live with wonderful families to free yourself up to foster the next batch that desperately need you. The goal is goodbye, but the journey is amazing. Filled with love and sometimes tears, but always worth it.
Keeping them healthy, warm, and helping to socialize them are key.
Fostering is different than just sheltering. It's fostering a temperament, a personality, a love and a kindness. It's having the time to spend with each. It's not just about getting them inside (though having a separate room, even if a small bathroom, is important), but giving them an environment in which to flourish. It's fostering health and care.
Though fostering too takes knowing that kittens are fragile, they have more of a chance safe with you.
Fostering is all about communication.
About sharing pictures and ongoing updates about their personalities and the day to days. It’s about letting their potential homes know as much about them as you do so that the purrfect match can be made. Letting people know if you really have a lap kitten or if you have someone who needs their time and love to flourish. We use a couple of social media platforms and have many opportunities to get information out about your foster kitties, still so often getting them adopted relies on what you are willing to put into it. Building an online persona becomes even more important as social media is how their potential adopters will first meet them. Our fosters also get a say on who adopts the kittens they’ve cared for, as we trust them to know the kittens’ personalities the best. Together we all work to make the right fit.
